One of the greatest Paralympic athletes of all time, with 11 Paralympic gold medals across four Games (1992-2004). She broke 30 world records and won the London Wheelchair Marathon six times.
Biography
Tanni Grey-Thompson made her Paralympic debut at Seoul 1988, earning bronze in the 400m wheelchair event. Her career then built into one of the greatest in Paralympic history.
At Barcelona 1992 she became the first woman to break the 60-second barrier for 400m and won four gold medals. She followed that with gold at Atlanta 1996, four golds at Sydney 2000, and two golds at Athens 2004 — amassing a final Paralympic tally of 11 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medals. She also won 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze at World Championships, and broke 30 world records across her career.
Off the track, Grey-Thompson won the London Wheelchair Marathon six times. She was awarded the OBE (1993) and DBE (2005), and became a life peer as Baroness Grey-Thompson of Eaglescliffe.
