Biography
Rhys Williams was born in Cardiff and became the finest all-round European hurdler of his generation, winning European titles in four age groups — a feat no other athlete has achieved. His crowning moment came at the Helsinki 2012 European Championships where he won senior gold in the 400m hurdles.
He won the Commonwealth Games bronze medal at Delhi 2010 and posted a personal best of 48.84 seconds in Lucerne in 2013. He amassed a complete set of senior podium medals at European Championships — gold, silver, and bronze — establishing himself among Wales’ greatest ever hurdlers.
He won four Welsh national 400m hurdles titles and retired from competition in 2016. His father JJ Williams is regarded as one of the all-time greats of Welsh rugby.
