The first Welshman to break 50 seconds for the 400m hurdles, setting a Welsh record of 49.16 seconds. Won Commonwealth bronze in the 110m hurdles at Victoria 1994 and is one of the finest hurdlers in Welsh athletics history.
Biography
Paul Gray was a distinguished Welsh sprinter and hurdler. He won bronze in the 110m hurdles at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, in 13.54 seconds, and later earned another bronze as part of the 4x400m relay team at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
He made history as the first Welshman to break the 50-second barrier in the 400m hurdles, recording 49.81 in 1998 before setting a Welsh record of 49.16. He won eight Welsh titles across his career, including four sprint hurdles victories and the 100m crown in 1987.
As a junior he won bronze at the 1987 European Under-20 Championships in Birmingham. He is regarded as one of the finest all-round hurdlers in Welsh athletics history.
