Biography
Michelle Scutt (nee Probert) was born in 1960 and made history at the 1980 Moscow Olympics as the first Welsh female athlete to win an Olympic medal, earning bronze as part of the British 4x400m relay team.
At the 1982 UK Championships she won the 400m in a Commonwealth and UK record of 50.63 seconds — a Welsh record that stood for over 30 years. She claimed silver at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane and competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in both the individual 400m and relay.
Scutt won 11 Welsh senior titles, set 15 Welsh records, and remains the only Welsh female sprinter to better 23 seconds for 200m. A lifetime member of Sale Harriers, she was one of the most accomplished Welsh female athletes of the early 1980s.
