Biography
Jamie Baulch was born in Nottingham in 1973 and became one of Wales’ finest 400m runners. His Olympic silver came as part of the British 4x400m relay team at the Atlanta 1996 Games, making him one of only twelve Welsh Olympic athletics medallists.
His most celebrated individual achievement was winning the 1999 World Indoor Championships 400m title in Maebashi, Japan, in 45.73 seconds. His UK indoor record of 45.39, set in 1997, remained unbroken for many years. He represented Britain 29 times over a 12-year career and contributed to European relay gold medals in 1998 and 2002.
For Wales he helped secure Commonwealth relay medals in Kuala Lumpur (1998 bronze) and Manchester (2002 silver), won five Welsh Championship titles, and set nine senior Welsh records before retiring in 2005.
