Biography
Dai Greene from Llanelli is one of the greatest Welsh athletes of the modern era, and one of only two Welsh athletes to hold a World Athletics title in a traditional track and field event — alongside Colin Jackson.
In 2010 alone, he became European Champion in Barcelona (48.12) and Commonwealth Champion in Delhi (48.52) in the 400m hurdles. He then won the World Championship title in Daegu 2011 in 48.26 seconds, defeating Javier Culson. He posted a personal best of 47.84 seconds in 2012, finishing fourth in the final at the London Olympics where he served as Britain’s team captain.
Greene retired in July 2024 and was inducted into Welsh Athletics’ Hall of Fame three months later.
