Christian Malcolm
Track
The only Welsh athlete to reach an Olympic sprint final. Held Welsh records in both 100m and 200m since 2001 and competed at four Olympic Games — matching Colin Jackson's Welsh record for Olympic appearances.
Biography
Christian Malcolm is regarded as one of the greatest Welsh track athletes of all time. He became the World Junior double sprint champion in 1998 — only the second athlete in history to win both sprint titles at a single World Junior Championships. His Welsh records in the 100m (10.11) and 200m (20.08), both set in 2001, still stand.
Malcolm competed at four Olympic Games, equalling Colin Jackson’s Welsh record for most Olympic appearances, and was the only Welsh athlete to reach an Olympic sprint final. He won silver in the 200m at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and bronze in 2012, and finished fifth at the 2001 Edmonton World Championships in 20.22 seconds.
After retirement he served as a non-executive director of Welsh Athletics and as British relays coach.
