Dominant Welsh hurdler for more than a decade, Price won the 1978 Commonwealth Games 110m hurdles title in Edmonton. He won six consecutive AAA titles and earned 50 British international vests.
Biography
Berwyn Price, born in Tredegar and raised in Pontllanfraith, dominated British hurdling for over a decade from the early 1970s. Standing 6’3″, he became the most successful Welsh hurdler of his generation.
His greatest achievement came at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, where he won gold in the 110m hurdles. He had earlier won the European Junior title in Paris in 1970 and the 1973 World Student Games in a British and Commonwealth record of 13.69 seconds. He claimed silver at the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games.
Price won six consecutive AAA titles from 1973, was the first UK champion in 1977, and claimed six Welsh senior titles. He competed at the 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, reaching the semi-finals on both occasions. At retirement he held a then-Welsh record of 50 British international vests.
