Biography
Angela Tooby-Smith, born in Hereford, qualified to represent Wales while studying at Aberystwyth University alongside her identical twin sister. She became one of the finest distance runners Wales has produced.
She still holds Welsh records at 5,000m and 10,000m, both set in 1984. Her 10,000m time of 31:55.30 was a British record at the time and ranks 11th in all-time UK history. She won two UK titles at 5km, the Women’s AAA 10km title in 1988, bronze at the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games, and twice won the British cross-country championship.
She reached the World Championships (1987), European Championships (1986), the Seoul 1988 Olympics, and won silver both individually and in the team at the 1988 World Cross Country Championships in Auckland.
